Welcome To Comedius
We at Comedius want to create real employment opportunities for people who have experienced poverty, homelessness or social exclusion. In doing this we want to provide a positive environment with positive role models who will engage, motivate and encourage vulnerable people to take up vocational and non-vocational learning opportunities within Urban and Rural Regeneration.
We want to focus our time and energy on providing vulnerable people with real opportunities to access training or retraining, resources and to gain firsthand experiences within the creative arts, entertainment, sports and leisure industries. We believe that given the opportunity many people can potentially benefit from the range of valuable life skills acquired from working within these fast growing and highly motivated sectors.
Mission Statement
Comedius aim to promote for the public good, both Urban and Rural Regeneration. In seeking to promote both Urban and Rural Regeneration Comedius will work within the boundaries of a Social Enterprise to introduce initiatives to reduce poverty, homelessness and social exclusion.
What is Social Exclusion
"Social exclusion is about the inability of our society to keep all groups and individuals within reach of what we expect as a society or to realise their full potential"
We also understand that it is impossible for one organisation to tackle to issue of Social Exclusion so we have been setting up strong ties with local, regional, and national organisations including:
Derby Association of Community Partners
Derby Council of Voluntary Services
Stone soup Project
Big Issue
Derby Homes
Derby University
Homeless Word Cup
Comedius has been set up to provide a sustainable approach to the original projects set up by The Roundabouts Trust UK, which is a self help group formed in 2005 at the Derby Night Shelter with members from the homeless community.
With the growing success of the projects running under the voluntary self help group a need arose for a more structure approach to the problems facing the socially excluded within Derby, Derbyshire and the East Midlands.
At the heart of Comedius is the ethos that all members bring mutual respect, compassion, and humanity to not only to themselves, the members of the organisation but also within their local community.
Currently we run a football club NFA Derby FC and manage a team that plays in the Derby Church League on Saturdays.
We are currently working towards providing a training ground in Derby for memners of the homeless community to engage in regular sports, this initiative will actively promote the Homeless World Cup.
NFA Festival Arts will be responsible for sourcing emerging talent; offering a mentoring & development role guiding artists through the necessary stages to progress down their individual creative paths. We will also be offering artists practical assistance which will include studio recording, live gigs, publicity and air play. For the last two years we have been working in partnership to supply a live music stage at Chaddesden park festival, resulting in extending it to a two day festival in the future.
With the help of local artists, mainly of them having experienced some form of social exclusion and Derby University we have recently produced the first of many albums to promote the talent in and around Derby at this time. For more details on how to purchase this album please feel free to contact us.
For your enjoyment please find clips from the great local artists who gave their time and skill in creating NFA the Album.
To find out how you can purchase your copy simply email us from the contact page. We look forward to hearing from you.
